I don’t know Headkicker. Should you ever have the misfortune to become single now that you are past your twenties, you will quickly discover that most of the people in your age group that are in the dating pool have the emotional maturity of a nine year old.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, it's no better for those of us in the 10-percent bracket. Like a lot of people, I feel like I'm too damned busy to really pursue a relationship right now, and most of the guys I meet seem to be hunting husbands as if they're afraid they're going to die tomorrow and they have to GET MARRIED RIGHT FUCKING NOW.
I had what might loosely be referred to as a date a few weeks ago, and after a fairly decent bout of sex, the guy began reading a poem - taped to his refrigerator - about the need to share one's feelings with others and telling me how wonderful I am. I couldn't get out fast enough.
I'm all for promiscuity and I'm all for dating, but can't there be an evening of dinner and a movie before pledging emotional honesty and intimacy?

Ten percent's a metaphorical number. Two to 3 percent is far too low. The actual numbers of people who live openly as gay is probably less than 10 percent but far higher than your estimate. You obviously have no idea how much industry/business caters to gay clientele on just about every level of society. If there's a "straight" business, there's a gay equivalent to match it.

I'll give you as much as five. Also, I think your sampling may be skewed by where you live. I'm in Atlanta, which is the definitive fag capital of the South, and I work in theater. THEATER. It's replete with homos, sure, but one out of ten people in the general population? Where are they all hiding? And let's not forget the smaller communities that haven't had queers moving to them for years and years to puff up the numbers.
USDHHS says about 1.6%, which is obviously too low. 3% is my personal estimate. It's nowhere near Kinsey's ten.

Studies on the total number of gay and lesbian people in the United States show a range from 2 percent to 10 percent of the total population. In the last three elections, the Voter News Service exit poll registered the gay vote between 4 percent and 5 percent. While concluding that the Census 2000 undercounted the total number of gay or lesbian households, for the purposes of this study, we estimate the gay and lesbian population at 5 percent of the total U.S. population over 18 years of age, (209,128,094). This results in an estimated total gay and lesbian population of 10,456,405. A recent study of gay and lesbian voting habits conducted by Harris Interactive 1 determined that 30 percent of gay and lesbian people are living in a committed relationship in the same residence. Black, Gates, et. al 2 find a similar figure in their study recently published in “Demography.” Using that figure, we suggest that 3,136,921 gay or lesbian people are living in the United States in committed relationships in the same residence. Census 2000 counted 1,202,418 gay and lesbian people in committed relationships. Under the assumptions stated above, this represents an undercount of 62 percent.

You're starting to sound like Phred and co. back during the election. "Oh, the polls are totally fucked! You'll see on election day," and then the results were extremely close to the polling. The simple fact is that carefully-reviewed random sampling WORKS.
Not to mention, those numbers are from HRC, who don't exactly have a reason to understate the gay population.

My dating advice is actually pretty simple.... Avoid dating any women past the age of twenty six because they're desperate as hell to get married and want real "relationships" not fun..... The perfect aged woman is twenty two years old because they like drinking and fucking as much if not more than most men... Avoid overly religious women because after all the fun they tend to go on incredible guilt trips...

My sampling isn't reflective of San Francisco. I've lived in rural towns with populations ranging from 200 to 5,000 people in Arkansas, California, Alaska, Ontario, and Vermont. I've lived in big cities in New York, Quebec, Alaska, and California. I lived for a year in fucking Antarctica. I have a pretty good idea about who lives where.
You, Jesuslovespegging, a twenty-something-year-old who apparently gets much of his sexual knowledge from Dan Savage, need to get out a little more.
And Bigcat, I've worked construction in the Antarctic, Vermont, and California, been a firefighter and EMT, own guns, lived in the backwoods of Alaska, and a cattle ranch in California. I can guarantee you I wasn't the only homo in any of those environments. One of my current housemates is a carpenter, and an old friend is a beer brewer. I have other friends who are also firefighters and farmers. A buddy of mine used to be a rodeo competitor, but not on the gay rodeo circuit.
The difference is that a lot of guys may not feel very secure being open about themselves in those environments, so they're unlikely to talk about their lives with guys they perceive as straight.

Amusingly this indicates that the gay-boys wish to increase their percentages to appear to be more normal all the while pretending to embrace the queer monikor. The anti-gay boys wish to depress the percentages for exactly the opposite reasons. Meanwhile the lesbo's have given up on men all to together and get their attention wherever it is offered with a sense of dignity.

As Pale pointed out earlier, a lot of guys who have sex with other men don't identify as gay. The whole concept of gay is a modern construction. Even ancient societies which condoned and accepted the idea of same-gender sexual activity didn't isolate those persons - it appears they simply acknowledged that some guys liked fucking other guys and other guys weren't all that into it.
For the sake of argument, I'll agree that five percent of the population identifies as gay. The number of people, men specifically, who have sex with other men but do not identify as gay, is much higher. Not astronomically, but it is quite a bit higher. Many still believe they have a great deal to lose by identifying as gay, others simply do not relate to gay men, and others had one or two isolated experiences and left it at that.
Sexuality is not a cut and dried experience, for anyone. I've never had sex with a woman, I have no desire to have sex with a woman, I can't imagine I ever will have sex with a woman. But at 42, my sexual tastes are certainly different than they were 20 years ago.
If anyone here at High Street can say their sexuality - whatever their orientation - has remained the same throughout their lives, they're either having no fun or lying. Or both.

And, yet, men have a hypersensitive prostate that responds to direct stimulation, while the anal muscles grip and squeeze the penis with optimum stimulation and pleasure, nothing else even comes close, not within a thousand miles. You sound like the woman who refuses to eat chocolate based on the idea that she might like it.

Aside from preferences and attractions (which I won't argue); the reality is anal sex is arguably the same regardless of the gender of the fuckee. Therefore you, by your own admittance, lack the experience to comment on this matter.
To be frank, nothing at all compares to the velvety strength and pheremones of a vagina you are returning home to (from a long absence).
Nothing against your gayness, but you just have no idea...
