Given the sad shape of the economy, I expect an outbreak of pragmatism on the part of Gay people who still have jobs and their supporters. It’s easy enough to not spend for a day, and make it up the next day, but not going to work is a bit risky right now.

And Pink Slip seems to be as appropriate as any other term for "looking to fire your ass for cause." In this particular state, you don't even need a reason.
