Illinois is a state where the parties really have no distinction. No one has a lock in corruption here, and neither party will tell you otherwise.

The brazen quality of Blagojevich's approach to, em, opportunity reminds me of another democrat, John Jenrette, who told an FBI agent befiore taking a bag of cash in the Abscam sting that he had "larceny in his heart." (As an aside, not long thereafter, his wife Rita posed in Playboy. For a middle aged woman, I thought she was pretty hot.) I have to admit a certain perverse curiousity about thugs in office.
As brazen as these clowns were, no one can touch Nixon. The recently released tapes of Nixon and Haldeman have some classic moments where he demands that Haldeman arrange for a burglary of the Brooklings Institution headquarters. At another time, he pushed for a fire bombing of Brookings. Having spent a little time at the Brookings, I cannot describe how out of place Nixon's ideas seem. It is a building full of eggheads. Not exactly the types that should inspire such ire.

The big difference between Nixon, though, and Blagojevich (other than office, time, etc.) was Nixon's incredible paranoia. Neuroses leads people to do some pretty strange things.

The first of Obama's friends to be arrested and indicted, and even before he takes office. Being from Chicago, Obama will be setting the all time record for presidential pardons.

I think Obama has more close friends who will go down, whereas Clinton sold the pardons for the going price. However, I just read another article saying the Rezko/Obama real estate deal is now the subject of a grand jury investigation. But then, this may just be Chicago politics as usual.
Critics of Mr. Obama's dealings with Rezko charge that the senator may have gotten a deal on his property purchase, noting that Mrs. Rezko paid the full asking price for her property on an adjacent lot. Both of which were sold by a single seller. Mr. Obama bought his house for $1.65 million - $300,000 below the asking price.
As a state senator, Mr. Obama wrote letters endorsing government support of a Rezko housing project for senior citizens. Obama aides say he was simply supporting a project that would help residents of his district, not doing a favor for a friend.

I have been re-reading some Vonnegut, and I swear to God, I just came across the following this very day:
[Nixon] is the first President to hate the American people and all they stand for. He believes so vibranty in his own purity, although he has committed crimes which are hideous, that I am bound to conclude that someone told him when he was very young that all serious crime was sexual, that no one could be a criminal who did not commit adultery or masturbate.
He is a useful man in that he has shown us that our Constitution is a defective document, which makes a childlike assumption that we would never elect a President who disliked us so. So we must amend the Constitution in order that we can more easily eject such a person from office and even put him in jail.
Circa 1974...emphasis mine.

Obama is not the only one involved in a questionable Rezco real estate deal. I know of people (attorneys talk to each other) who have all been burned by Rezco. Apparently, he's a very charming guy who talked a good game, and people did business with him because of his ties to the governor. Remember, there was a time when Blago was thought to be a stand-up guy, so his ties to Blago were the seal of approval. None of the people I know of had any idea that something might be amiss with their real estate deal. Of course, they were all contacted by the feds and have been fully cooperative, but really pissed off that they have to have criminal attorneys to represent their interest and to make sure they don't unintentionally incriminate themselves.
As for Blago and Obama, Blago needed Obama more than Obama needed him. Blago cozied up to Obama to hitch onto his star, so to speak. I doubt very seriously if Obama is remotely involved in any of he corruption.

According to the report, Obama wasn't involved, and that really pissed Blago off. It's actually my favorite quote from the transcripts:
Blago Blagonovitch wrote:
In a conversation with Harris on November 11, the charges state, Blagojevich said he knew that the President-elect wanted Senate Candidate 1 for the open seat but "they're not willing to give me anything except appreciation. Fuck them."

Who told you!?!?!?!?!
Yeah, I dig the "merry prankster" analogy.... This made my day. You don't know how close to the head of the nail you hit me with that one.... Damn... Do we know each other?
I read "Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" when I was in middle school and it set a pattern in me that carried me for almost 20 years... good times...
I did like Tojo's reply, though. I actually giggled a bit. Truth be told, I'm happy Obama won for many reasons, most of which have to do with several people I became close to over the years who thought, before the met me, that all white folk were either in the klan or klan-sympathetic. I remember what Will Smith said to Oprah after the election and it makes it all worth it. He said something to the effect that he never thought, in his lifetime, enough whites would vote for a black candidate to ever win an election and he went on to say how being wrong about that made him feel. Obama's election did more for race relations than anything since the 60's....
Proving that MOST Americans are color blind is way more important than anything else... I'm sure it was a shock to find that Obama got more white male votes than either Kerry or Gore.... that tells you a lot about Kerry and Gore....
Anyway, God fucking bless America. None of those Euro countries (Canada included) have ever elected a black man.... Now they can all take their false sense of superiority and fuck themselves with it and go back to hating us because of envy instead of hating us because our leader is a wack-job.
I feel so balanced right now. In my heart, I'm tirelessly clinging to my guns and lack of religion but in my soul I'm happy that some leftist (possible crook) is my president..... That's the beauty of our country and, with all our faults, we are the only place where a guy like Obama could possibly become president.
Oh yeah, I'll dog this guy relentlessly for the next 4 years for all his fuck-ups and leftist bullshit, you can count on that. I feel strongly about socialism and I'm proud of my stance on that shit. I hate the whole religious right crap as much as your most vapid lefttard on this board, so at least that is something we can all agree on. So far, though, Obama has dropped half the promises he made that I didn't like so I don't have much to complain about... He seems to be moving right every day... heehee

Yeah, like ptah said! He and I, being of the enlightened Right, know the truth. Our fat white guys with the money have puppet mastered this election and Obama is simply the next wooden-headed marionette at the end of the strings. All the leftist promises; leaving Iraq, soaking the rich, helping the poor, all have been part of the sham from the beginning. We run the world. Stop thinking that the media represents the majority. I don't know anyone who leans as far to the left as Pelosi and Reed. Everyone that I know considered Obama a centrist. Obama won because he's a centrist. Yep, me too. I built a water pipe based on an illustration in the former before I'd ever seen one and stuck out my thumb for Las Vegas inspired by the later. I got to Tennessee and turned back.

First, I've never read or heard any "talking points" in my whole life. Anything I address is my own opinion. You always accuse me of reading some, "talking points", which I find funny. "Talking point" must mean "a truth we have no argument for".
Second, you admit yourself that YOU were trolling ME in your previous post. Pot, meet kettle.
Also, although I do find it funny when people come unglued, I haven't been the "guy sent in to make people off themselves" since the bonsai kitty days.
I'm sorry that you've had a hard-on for me since I first came here, Blojo. It seems more telling about you than it does me. Again, I find it quite amusing that you admit (in this very thread) that you are trying to bait and troll me, then claim your superiority over me because I'm a supposed internet troll.
Sir, you are a hypocrite and tool of the highest order and are not worthy of my attention.
Furthermore, anyone who says they want to "redistribute the money", to me, is a socialist. I don't believe someone should be punished for hard work and subsequent success. I don't believe anyone should be rewarded for being lazy and/or stupid. Thank god Obama was just pretending to be a socialist to get your vote.
Again, it seems over the years you've simply read what you wanted to read about me, and ignored 1/2 of what I've said. You can't paint me with your brush of idiocy because you are so narrow-minded. I almost ALWAYS say, "hey this is what I believe" and make disclaimers about my rhetoric and you're the idiot for ignoring those, not me.

Yep, me too. I built a water pipe based on an illustration in the former before I'd ever seen one and stuck out my thumb for Las Vegas inspired by the later. I got to Tennessee and turned back.
Happily, I didn't get around to reading 'Dealing or The Berkeley-to-Boston Forty-Brick Lost-Bag Blues' until a bit later.
Hmm, never even heard of the last one... I'll have to check that out.

I just love it when devotees of ANY politician learn the truth about the object of their devotion. Bible thumpers who get caught fucking little boys are the standard fare, but right now it is particularly fun to watch the beaming faces of the disciples of the Messiah as they discover he is only a pragmatic politician, and not the righteous wrath of the Far Left come to smite the rich and impeach the president.
Stop thinking that the media represents the majority. I don't know anyone who leans as far to the left as Pelosi and Reed. Everyone that I know considered Obama a centrist. Obama won because he's a centrist. Anyone who voted for him because they thought he was going to push a radical leftist agenda is just as stupid as anyone who voted for Bush because they thought he was going to end abortion.
So you knew, as well, that Obama was just blowing air when he said he was going to raise taxes on those making over 250k (later changed to 200k, then 150k)?
You knew he was just joking when he claimed he was pulling out of Iraq in 16 months?
Wow, you and George must really be insiders.

Are you aware of any economist who recommends increasing income taxes in a severe recession? Do you think Obamaramists want him to plow ahead with restoring the higher tax rates on high-incomes regardless of the state of the economy?
On Iraq, you are making assumptions about what will happen in the next 16 months. I think his supporters are looking for him to move decisively in a direction more than to hew to an exact timeline.
Tends to make Tojo's point. The whole "socialist" label was a talking points item, no? Not to get too "political-sciency" about it, but different forms of "redistribution" are at the core of virtually every function of government. In the US, we have a moderately progressive income tax structure. Characterizing it as "punishment" is just rhetorical flourish. Do you think the members of the highest income bracket are suffering terribly? If so, your sympathies are misplaced. And do you think all people in the lower brackets are "lazy and/or stupid"? This suggests arrogance.

Hillarious!
Now his mindless minions are rationalizing away his campaign lies.
Windfall Oil tax- gone
Taxing folks making over 250k- gone
Pull out troops in 16 months- gone
The funniest part is, during the campaign the republicans said, "you can't tax anybody during an economy like this", to which Obama didn't back down, and now Obamas supporters are saying, "well, you can't tax anyone in an economy like this".
Same with the troops. All along the right has said, "we're going to pull them out, but we have to do it in a responsible manner based on ground conditions". Now Obamapoligists are out in force (Tojo and Fled) saying, "well, umm, yeah that 16 month thing was never, umm, yeah, umm, set in stone" (in my best Obama accent).
Trust me, I'm thrilled to death that he was lying when he promised those things, but it just goes to show what idiots Obamapoligsts (yeah, that's not a "talking point", I just thought of that in the previous thread, idiots, I'm sure someone else has thought of it as well, it's not a stretch) really are when they were defending the 250k tax increase and firm 16 month pull-out.
You guys crack me up on the "talk points" bullshit. This somehow implies that I either listen to AM radio (Limbaugh), read something more right-wing than the AP news wire or something along those matters. I don't even watch Fox News, so where you think I'm getting tips on things to print here is beyond me. I have My Yahoo as my "home page" and I have several news items on my home page (most viewed, breaking news, etc) as well as some sports news for the teams I like. Unless they are slipping in these "talking points" in the Colts news, I'm not getting the memo you keep trying to proclaim I am. I got my opinion about Obama and his breaking of his campaign promises from a "most viewed" AP story sometime either late last week or over the weekend. Sorry to disappoint you guys. You are such experts on the "talk points" that it saddens me that you folks load up on all the latest Obamanation (another one I just threw together, which I'm sure other folks have, too) tips to defend his campaign backtracking.
On top of that, this other claim made about how Obama has proven he's not anything like Pelosi... please....
Obama has voted with Pelosi, when he's been there to vote, some 95+% of the time. If McCain is "more of the same" then Obama must be Pelosi's human butt plug, based on the same logic used in the campaign... Obama has been nothing more than Pelosi's bitch. He was the first guy to come out and say, "well, we should drill for oil" after Pelosi put out her famous "if you need to say it to get elected, it's ok to say you are for drilling".
Now, that's not saying that a President Obama won't be center of Pelosi, but to somehow claim he has a track record for it is bull. So far, it looks like (much to the dismay of many liberals) Obama will govern from somewhere right of Pelosi. This is what I was hoping for and nobody will be happier than I when it comes to pass.
So, to wrap up, all of you Obamapologists who defend his political lies to get into office, shame on you! You'd have garnered more respect to say, "hey, people say what they can to win and then make the hard decisions after the election".
hehehehehehe

I had to address this crap, which I forgot about in my previous post.
I don't care about who I should feel sorry for, I do not believe you should PUNISH folks for working hard and being successful. Yeah, I said it. Personally, I think EVERYONE who is over the poverty level should pay the same percentage of tax. I think it is just downright insane to make someone give up 1/2 their income because they work hard and make good money.
No, I don't think all people in the lower brackets are "lazy and stupid", I just don't think we should reward those who are lazy and stupid. Which are you?

The one who pointed out how empty your rhetoric sometimes gets.

Taxing folks making over 250k - Still declared policy

The motherfucker isn't even president yet, why not wait to give him a chance to actually break his promises before dissing him for them? Oh yeah, I already know the answer, you're an idiot.

Ahh, based on your logic, when he does break the promises then you are the idiot and I'm the genius.
If you weren't so stupid, OP, you'd be dangerous.
His appointed folk are the ones backing out of his promises for him, in case you haven't heard. Sorry to disappoint.
