From the peanut gallery. . . more best wishes for a complete & rapid recovery, Emmeran. If the collected scorpions and centipedes of this circle can rally together and sing Kumbaya, I hope it's equally possible that this catastrophic tide in your life will recede to a more favorable condition.

Em,
I'm so sorry to hear this news. Please know that we are with you in spirit. We're right there beside you, making inappropriate comments, griping about the lousy food, making faces at your kids when your back is turned, and giggling at the fat people wearing spandex pants.

Actually, the one bright point is the free good coffee, and that this unassuming suburban hospital has won awards for their cardiac care.
Melon's has always approached the relationship as the caring Aunt, after all the kids have an active and loving mother. My HR Director has stepped up to help with the paper work, doubly imporant as the ex was the HR specialist at her work.
I hate to jinx us but she seems to be improving again, supposed to come of the respirator tomorrow (after a week). If we can get through the next few pre-dawn hours, we should be ok.
You guys are the best, I cannot voice how much I appreciate this support from the soft underbelly of society.

Hey, once she's out of harm's way and well, you're fair game again.

I remain fair game; I stand as the caretaker of the children. Were this Melons it might be a different story.

However, I'd much prefer someone I could happily huntdown and hurt.

News of the day:
Cindy is off of life support, the respirator was shut off at noon - seven of the ten IV's are gone and she no longer looks like a battery from the matrix. Heart and chest are healing well, lungs are recovering. That's all of the good stuff.
She went for a neural MRI today, haven't heard back from the brain surgeon yet. She is able to slightly close her right hand, still can't speak and we're not sure if she is aware that we are present for more than a minute. Lot's of crying also - hard to take the kids around that.
Officially we look for her to return home in January, work came through with my bonus check early so I could pay her bills, etc.
We plan to open presents in the hospital.
Thank you to everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers; the ground swell of support has been unbelievable. She works at Whole Foods on PCH in Long Beach; if you get by there drop a word to the staff they are all good people and pulling hard for her. We are not taking donations but she does support the RNC (no BS) so you can donate to them in her name and I can kill you later.
Seriously though; we encourage all of the kind souls who wish to help to donate to their local food bank. (Unless you are a uber-hot redhead with freckles in which case email me for instructions).

The RNC? I will donate to anything but that or the DNP. They let her in WholeFoods? wow. Good news, just the same.

Yup, she's actually the HR Rep for the store, as you can imagine diet isn't the problem here.

Well, Em, despite my curmudgeon-like existence here on H-S, I happen to be a softie when it comes to helping the poor (but please don't tell). Once again I'm running our annual holiday food drive at the Big Pharma where I work, and last year we placed 7th in terms of total food collected by any organization in the Phila area. I also help run the annual Boy Scout food drive at Thanksgiving, too. So... "this can's for you", bud... I'll drop another flat of tuna into the collection bin for just her.
Best of luck, buddy.

Update!
Walked in today with the boy (daughter is under-the-weather) and she was sitting up working with the speech therapist. Can grip with her right and and slowly kick her right leg. Had her first food and ice today, can't speak above a whisper but is displaying attitude - I've had to scold her already.
Thanks to all - things are improving rapidally.

Update - Finally out of ICU, Neuro-surgeon predicts full recovery!!!
I can go back to being an asshole soon!!!
I do want to express thanks on the part of myself and, more so, my children; your prayers and well wishes were well met and the desired happy ending was achieved.
The tedious part now begins, and thanks to many of you I have guidance through this confusing process (bless you Toe).
Bless you all...and I will get drunk now.

Can you somehow hide your net worth into swiss accounts while she's indisposed so it looks like you make say, 12k a year and have 22 dollars in your savings account when she comes to? That would be a very high street christmas indeed.
Cheers to you though, and the kids. What a great lesson in what's really important at christmas...health insurance.

I am truly sorry. The hospital is determined to have her experience every possible complication. Be on the lookout for a bleeding episode caused by the heparin being used to treat her embolus. Several other fun things she hasn’t had yet are anaphylactic shock or necrotizing fasciitis. You may want to look into a transfer to a different hospital.

Em, I'm not quite sure what to say except to express my best hopes to you all. I do know that throwing an embolism is not nearly as dangerous as it once was, and that the great majority of folks do live through it and without permanent damage, so I have hope that she will too. Hang in there and know that, given everyone here on H-S is clearly praying for you, that you clearly have all the spiritual powers of both heaven and hell on your side. Bon chance.

back into ICU
Ever continuing fun: Dopamine which was used to stabilize her blood pressure while on heparin sent her heart rate through the roof - she was hitting 145bpm while resting. Obviously this is not good and combined with an increasing white cell count set all the alarms off - we have lost count of the doctors involved and where they were brought in from.
Simply put, we will definitely be spending Christmas in the ICU; count is now 20 days.
