I could make a comment about Texas, but I won't. I'll let the people responding in these 2 articles do their job....

As it turned out, the three men were plain-clothed Galveston police officers who had been called to the area regarding three white prostitutes soliciting a white man and a black drug dealer.
The city has investigated the matter and found that the conduct of the police officers was appropriate under the circumstances...It's unfortunate that sometimes police officers have to use force against people who are using force against them. And the evidence will show that both these folks violated the law and forcefully resisted arrest.
So if three plain clothed men grab a 12 year old girl out of her yard in the dark and try to stuff her into a van, she fights back and hits one, then beating the snot out of her and her father is "appropriate"?
The only thing missing from this story is some innocent getting shot.
Maybe the police department can use this as an excuse for another $1 million grant for research into why people don't respect the police any more.

Just another day in The South. My mother once faced a policeman with a gun drawn on her during a minor traffic stop (she ran a stop sign in a residential neighborhood that was partially covered by foliage) in broad daylight. He at least had the decency to apologize when he saw she was an old White lady and let her off with a warning because he saw how she could have not seen the sign. The incident with the girl appears to be garden variety southern cop assholery.
What really bothers me is the increasing militarization of police forces all across America. After you have watched eight California policemen in flack jackets with guns drawn storm into your next door neighbor’s home to bust him for pot smoking, you realize the police are not your friends.

The case can be made that you should never talk to the police. No matter how innocent you are or even as just a witness.
Why you should not talk to the police.
