A perfect little storm of an idea me' thinks:
"When I look at those double-page New York Times spreads of all the individual pictures of people who have been killed [in Iraq], I got to think, 'Maybe there wouldn't have been a war if I hadn't gone to Miami-Dade. Maybe there hadn't have been, in my view, an unjustified war if Bush hadn't become president.' It's very disturbing to me."
-- Roger Stone, the GOP consultant who led the "Brooks Brothers Riot"
against the Miami-Dade County election board during the 2000 Florida recount

Of course it's all guesswork and hindsight at this point, and we'll never know; but my best guess is:
1) Tromped Afghanistan until the Taliban were extinct (instead of making a comeback, as they are today);
2) Not gone into Iraq for no rational fucking reason at all (recruiting an entire new generation of MidEast youth to jihad in the process) and gotten us stuck there for God knows how far into the future;
3) Not created a completely unnecessary new government agency, fucking up FEMA in the process and consequently giving us the unforgettable fuckaree that was the Gulf Coast after Katrina.
4) I could probably come up with half a dozen more but I'm starting to think that might have been a rhetorical question.

The Clinton Administration (which included Al Gore) warned the incoming Bush administration to pay attention to Bin Laden, that his group was planning to hijack planes to use as weapons. The Bush team ignored the warning and 9-11 was the result. The neo-conservative justification tap dance is degrading to the dancer, especially when performed by someone of your complexion.

After 9/11 the Americans needed an enemy and that enemy was Islam.... The enemy to common sense, freedom, individual thought and rationality will always be religion and Islam is one of the worst.... I will never bad mouth the concept of converting any of the religious fucktards into a red mist....

As anti-Bush as I am - and I'm probably the most militant here - let's not assume that Gore and Kerry (and Obama as well - whom I voted for) are not politicians.
These bastards, all of them - the new-breed included, will say anything up unto the actual selling of their soul for a vote.
Yes Gore is righteous now, but so is Palin - this is because they are also rans and their respective careers are dead.
If you want change what you have gotten is a change - of stationary mostly.
To think that Obama can weather Pelosi, Boxer, Reid and the money is ridiculous. The game is over before it started.
To paraphrase: "Hail to the new boss, same as the old boss"
oh and "we won't be fooled again"
"ahhh yaahh"

Islam, more so than Christianity, has proven over the centuries to be better at true science; by far more scientific discoveries and advances were made during the reign of Islam.
Too bad these days Islam and Christianity have both retreated to neandrethal thoughts and goals... why is it the idiots always win in the end??

We put it off for the first 12 years. Career, recording studios, travel, drugs, what ever. After the spawn came on the scene, we rather liked the whole idea, but couldn't justify the impact on the globe and others with another of ours. I put it all to rest until I went back into the corporate world, and discovered that the typical Fundie Family had at least 5 of the little bastards.
Indeed, we are fucked.

Raised gas taxes to pay for and encourage alt-energy development thus decreasing our dependence on Mid-East oil as well as spurring new job growth in an industry that the world is hungry for and willing to pay for. New jobs/industry creates a more stable economy, which in turn....

Islam didn't give us algebra and optics, the Babylonians did.... The Middle East would have continued to be the center of science and philosophy if it wasn't for Islam destroying the minds of the people.... The same can be said for Christianity throughout history..... Religion does nothing but destroy progress.....

The Islamic Empire systematically gathered and spread the discoveries of those they conquered. They were like the fictional Borg in this respect. They actually invented very little.

I was listening to the Skeptics Guide to the Universe podcast today and they mentioned that the number one thing a person can do to increase their carbon footprint is to have a child...... I personally could give a shit or less about my carbon footprint, but knowing that little fact allows me to feel just a little bit smug knowing that somehow I'm doing my part and all those people with kids are somehow niave to the needs of our fragile planet....

"They actually invented very little."
But they preserved what the Xians burned, following the Judaic example of scorched earth policies to what went before.

If I recall correctly - didn't the Irish ship their collection of works off to the Muslims in Spain for safe keeping?
I stick to my guns on the concept that religion is merely a tool used by politicians and always has been ever since the first shaman discovered he could have more power than the mightiest warrior king just by shaking his rattle.

I've read that argument before, but medieval Muslims are to be credited for recognizing such creativity and seeing its value to civilization over all. When you look at the accomplishments of the early Muslim world (and for illustrative purposes I am ignoring the Muslim conquests which took many of these accomplishments so far afield), you see brilliant examples of art, science, architecture, astronomy, and engineering. They truly accomplished great works of beauty. It's a pity for everyone involved the Ummah's been hijacked by neanderthals.
Edit: Oh, and in the same spirit of today's Neanderthalism, I suggest we haul every one of those fucking neo-cons out into the streets and blow them away. Fucking waste of DNA.

Hasn't it also been argued that they were merely continuing the practices of the Mongols?
