I hope nothing bad ever befalls Obama (and I do mean that most sincerely) because some of the wack-jobs on here will be found in the streets, carving their scaps with knives, throwing their hands in the air, screaming while the blood runs down their face.....

H-S liberals are on the same plane as Islamic extremists when it comes to their fanatic hero-worship!

Oh, and umm, on the "not bad for a first day" post?

Close Gitmo in a year? His campaign promise was to have it closed in 100 days? And one of his blind followers (and chief apologists at HS, I might add) brags that signing some piece of paper saying "lets close that sucker in a year" is a major accomplishment?

Well, if going back on campaign promises is a major accomplishment to you, I guess he is the Ayatollah of American then!!!

You have mistaken the tears of relief for the end of the bush catastrophe.  The vast majority here are far to cynical to fall into the "fan boi" crowd.

Here we go again with the excuse "I'm not crying over the Joy of Obama (tm), but over the evacuation of Bush".

When I think of Bush leaving, tears don't well up.  I smile and do a happy dance.  Crying is the last thing I'd do over GW.

I'm telling you this Obama worship is like some religious cult.  A normally hard core cynic (but left leaning) friend of mine almost broke into tears at lunch today while describing the joy he felt when children all over the world were rotely reciting the words "yes, we can".  I almost puked up my won ton soup.

Why are so many so fucking hateful about the obama shit? I mean, come on, we've had eight years of absolute hell, and here comes something that might actually be better, might, and oh nooooooooooooooooo!!! We're brainwashed!!! Something terrible's gonna happen to all these folks who don't normally vote who actually care about something for a change! The guy might...gasp..let them down!!! What will we do???

So what? The guy has maybe 100 days to pull his shit together, and then the wolves will come unleashed and the country will start crumbling and the haters will go crazy. More so, in fact, because he's black and because of the backlash against all the people who believed in him in the first place. I hope to God he's able to do something good, and if he's not, it's aloha in 3 and a half years.

By the way, The Onion has had some amusing headlines lately.

I'm not against Obama making the country a better place, I'm just not supportive of him because I disagree with him on nearly everything...  The world Obama envisions is rife with regulation and governmental control, a weakening of the rights of the individual, more powerful unions, and a heavy dose of multiculturalism....  To be honest I would love for him to not honor his campaign promises because then I would not be subjected to all this bullshit....

Everyone knows Condi isn’t interested in men.  What she did with Shrub was just a matter of sleeping with the boss to further her own career.  At one point, it cost her a trip to the hospital to have “a growth” removed from her uterus.

Because they're pigs.

They had eight years of having it all their own way, but that wasn't enough and they're furious that it's over (for now).

I think a lot of them are terrified of the dirty laundry the new regime will be able to make public should the fit take them (I really, really hope it does.  I want a goddamn purge.  But alas, I don't think this regime is of that mindset).

Because they've worn the concept of elitism completely threadbare, and the public is sick of that particular poison anyway, they've shifted to mocking optimism and hope.

Apparently, according to them, it's now childish to love your country, and naive to imagine our situation can improve.

Fuck 'em.  Let them mourn the muck this country became in the last eight years, since that's the kind of nation they preferred to live in.  Leave them squatting in it, since they're so loath to rise out of it.

Nor ever did a wise one.

I could give a shit or less about the Republican's dirty laundry, I'm not a Republican....  I also don't think it's childish to love your country which I do....  I just do not want a country that does not recognize and support the individual and his or her rights as the ultimate goal....  The only role of government is to create an environment in which the individual has the opportunity to thrive based upon his or her abilities and work ethic....  We need to adopt a more constitutionalist approach and limit the Federal government to just the broad based roles outlined in the constitution....  It's as short sighted supporting Barack Obama in this fashion as it was supporting George W. Thank you Roger....  I constantly see all kinds of hate and discontent from all sides directed at the Federal government...  Very few people are ever happy with them, esp. the Executive branch, for very long at all...  When Bush first became president he had all kinds of support much in the same fashion that Barack Obama is enjoying now and look what happened there....  The Federal government needed a strong role in the past, but with current communication technologies, extremely high literacy rates in the West and a better educated public their role is becoming mute....  The modern world has become a place in which the individual can think and choose for themselves without having "big brother" do the decision making for them...  The modern Western world has also become a place in which there are no true victims...  The best example of this is Barack Obama himself, a black man raised by a single mother who became the President of the United States....  There is no better example of what an individual can do for himself with hard work and determination....

Yes.  I don’t know where Fox News gets their information about what Barack and Michelle like to do in bed, but they really should have just killed the story.  Even if they are the First Couple, they're entitled to personal privacy.

Why the puppet masters of course.   Big business, big oil, big unions, party leaders, lobbyists, etc, etc.  Nobody becomes a national politico without baggage and favors to be paid.  And on that note, here is a quote from the story you posted:

"The way to make government responsible is to hold it accountable," Obama said. "And the way to make government accountable is make it transparent so that the American people can know exactly what decisions are being made, how they're being made, and whether their interests are being well served."

In response to the new "open government" policy, I offer this tidbit about our new Secretary of State.

Thank you for a well-thought-out response and a link.

Big business:  maybe, probably, but that's a mighty vague category; big oil:  I won't believe that unless I see some proof.  Big Oil's whore was Bushie and his frat brothers; unions:  Democrat, so goes without saying; party leaders, likewise, but no more than a Republican would be; lobbyists:  going by this, I'd say nope.

Nobody becomes a national politico without baggage and favors to be paid.

I'd be an idiot to try to argue with that.  The important questions are, what are those favors and how will they be reciprocated?  I care much more about getting government activity back under the rule of law.  If some rich idiot gets to be Ambassador to the Bahamas or whatever along the road, that don't befront me too much...it'd be small potatoes compared to, say, Halliburton's no-bid contracts et al.

Besides, the money will eventually trickle down to the everyday average banker in the Cayman islands.

Didn't Clinton dole out a shitload of no-bid contracts to Halliburton?

He should be in JAIL!!!

Shoo, troll.  Come up with something at least mildly amusing.

It is no use.

Logic is like Sanskrit to the gullible masses.

Actually, Bush had lukewarm support that was eking away slowly until September 11th.  Don't you guys remember the articles about how he already seemed to be a lame duck?  He put all of his energy into trying to privatize Social Security and people weren't buying it, the Chinese had already made him look like a chump with the downed US plane, and he was already getting criticism about cronyism and his "energy board" that was just a bunch of oil execs having lunch with Cheney.  When people were attacked the level of nationalism went through the roof, and his numbers skyrocketed.

Once it really, finally got through people's heads that Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11 and we weren't going to have Bin Laden's head on a pig pole people started to look at Bush himself again, and weren't all that pleased with what they saw.

I can't argue with the gullibility of the masses, though, considering that it took well past 2004 for people to finally start to get it about Iraq.

Obama is entering office with the highest approval ratings in recent history, in part because on top of the fact that very few people believed it was possible, he seems to get shit done, and they want someone to pull us out of the messes that the past administration got us into and the ones that they couldn't seem to do anything about.  You can call it gullible if you want, but that's only if you believe that he can't really do what he says he'll do.  Hope is only gullibility if you are being lied to, and if that turns out to be the case, then yes, his numbers will tank, too.  There doesn't seem to be any evidence to back that up, though.
