Tornado yes, typhoon I don’t know.  The Gripen only has one engine, less range, less payload, but good radar.  But with AWACS and beyond-visible-range weapons maybe dogfights aren’t so important now.

That's what they said pre-Vietnam, too.  As more adversaries get stealth capability, or stay down in the mud, there will always be a place for maneuverable fighters with guns, able to recover from lost initiative and take the bastards down.
