The Fifth Element is one weird-ass movie that I can't help liking, even though I feel I should probably snub it for some reason.  I cannot explain that.  As a movie it's pretty much a mess, yet somehow it engages me.

I like all the performances, particularly Gary Oldman's.  I even like Milla Jovovich in this movie.

Whenever it shows up on TNT I stop what I'm doing and sit down to watch.

Oh, and 12 Monkeys is undisputably great, and I own a copy.

I agree!  I'm the same way.  Whenever it shows up on cable I end up watching it again.  What's not to like about a movie with a large blue alien singing dance/opera?

I can handle the movie until it comes to the blue alien singing opera.....   That seen is so corny and awkward that it defines the entire movie for me.....

It's also been the inspiration for many a Comicon costume.

Dude, the whole movie is corny.  That's kinda the point.  "The fifth element is love."  It doesn't get any cornier than that.

I swear that Willis' character was based off of the taxi driver part ("Harry Canyon") in Heavy Metal.

you're not alone in that thought.  here's a link to a pretty wide discussion of the matter: http://forum.newsarama.com/archive/index.php/t-791.html

Never saw it.  I thought the 5th element was oral creampies.
