A chicharra (cicada)!  Once every couple of years they'd show up all over the trees.  My brother and I would play with the skins they left behind.  We'd stick them to our shirts, then flick them at the girls.

They're interesting creatures.  They'll spend up to seventeen years underground sucking on roots and then pop up into the world for a couple of weeks of debauchery before they die.

I used to work a government office job, and one year there was a mass invasion of crickets into the building. They were even squeezing in through the gaps between the loose window glass and window frames. They'd get inside the ceilings and chirp in torturous "serenades," and when we'd poke up the acoustic panels, they'd flee so we couldn't locate/kill the little fuckers. Needless to say, smeared remnants of crickets spotted the floors where employees had accidentally crushed them underfoot. A few times I collected handfuls of the [live] things and slipped them into the vending machines that dispensed candy and snacks, and into the little enclosed terrariums some of the ladies kept on their desks. One lady freaked when her cute terrarium erupted with chirps. I also directed some of the obnoxious insects toward women's cubicles and listened for the inevitable screams. Never let a good invasion go to waste.

That is so wrong.  Mostly because crickets smell funky in large enough numbers.  I used to have a couple of White's tree frogs, and I didn't realize for a while that it was the crickets that gave off the funky bad smell...

Another time there was a sick (rabid?) bat outside the office and a number of employees were alarmed.  I told one of the ladies that I was going to fetch it and bring it in. I left the work area for a few minutes. I crumpled up a piece of black paper and held it between my palms the way you'd hold a small animal to keep it from escaping. I ambled back to the coworker and tossed the black paper in the air; it unfolded like a bat. A loud scream was heard by all! (I'm sure SHE misses me. hah hah  I was a wild brat in those days.)
