Dry gangrene. My late mother got dry gangrene in the toes of one of her feet (blood clot). The toes turned coal black and shriveled up like little prunes. Her general physician/rotten slut cooly "reassured" us that the toes would "just" fall off by themselves eventually. I didn't relish the idea of picking up my very sweet mom's fallen parts wherever they dropped in the house. She was in such excruciating pain from the gangrene that I insisted that a vascular surgeon remove the toes, to relieve my mom's agony. Finally an outstanding surgeon amputated the toes, saving much more of her foot than we thought he could. The surgery did get rid of the pain, thankfully. My mom was SO happy to be free of the anguish, even though she lost several (already-dead) toes in the process. 

I wonder if this person contracted gangrene from trench foot, jungle rot. I'm guessing the person lives in a wet jungle environment in Asia. One of the feet looks like it snapped off like a piece of old wood.
