Meh. It's more like a Women's Studies course taught by an adjunct professor. Digesting Ian Fleming is, for guys, what Danielle Steele or Jackie Collins is for women. It's an easy read, where all the climaxes occur like clockwork. People who read this shit are stupid.

That's too harsh. The books are stupid, sure; but everyone craves a little junk food now and again. I don't personally care for Danielle Steele, or V.C. Andrews, or Fleming or Ludlum on the male side of trashy books, but God knows I have my own guilty pleasures. And I've always loved the Bond movies.

Dexter's sort of interesting to me as well, but I don't do much pleasure reading at all lately, and all the recent Bond film adaptions have just been formulaic pieces of crapola.

Lindsey's [sp?] writing is just laughably bad, but the character is so much fun that I don't care. It's Pringle's lit--horrible even for junk food, but sometimes you crave it anyway.
As far as the 007 movies go, you always know what to expect, which is a fundamental requirement of comfort food. We just watched Quantum of Solace this very afternoon, and I could have blocked out the scenes in order without ever having seen it; but it was still great fun. Also, pretty pretty people.

My comfort food is old pulp scifi/fantasy/horror serials from the '30s and '40s. Anybody ever read any of the Lensman books?

Be forewarned: they will, at times, take concerted effort on your part to continue reading.
The first book (Triplanetary) you can basically skip. Books 3-5 are where the meat's at.
Clear ether.
